Carl F. Welty, 85, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018. He was born July 12, 1932, in Fairmont, W.Va., a son of the late Charles and Virginia Weisman Welty. He had been a member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Carl was a decorated Navy veteran with 20 years of honorable service. He served during the Korean War, was part of the Cuban Missile Blockade and the Bay of Pigs Invasion and served during the Vietnam War. At his last duty station, he served as the chief of naval recruiting for the Western Pennsylvania district. He then served as an assistant postmaster in Ligonier. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Fogel Welty; a brother, Michael Welty, who was a decorated Marine Corps veteran with more than 20 years of service; and a son-in-law, Charles "Mick" McFarland Jr. He is survived by four children, Janet (Jeff) Lawson, Jean McFarland, Steven Welty and Paul Welty; seven grandchildren, Jason (Erica Hursch) Welty, Brandy Hammerschmidt, Alicia (David) Kepics, Auriel Welty, Ty Welty, Troy Welty, and Teagan Welty; two great-grandchildren, Logan Hammerschmidt and Roman Welty; three brothers, Terence, Mark and Joseph Welty; a sister, Joan Scott; and a number of nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitation. Private interment will be in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff at Southwestern Veterans Center, for the care that Carl received.
